Gordon Birtwistle, MP for Burnley and Padiham, attended today's General Election Question time at Burnley's UCLan Campus - the first hustings of the year. A number of students watched Gordon put forward his case for bringing jobs and investment to Burnley against candidates from UKIP and Labour.
Students at the event were encouraged to register to vote to make sure that they had their say in this year's important election, as part of the "I'm Doing It!" campaign being run by UCLan from their main campus in Preston. You can register to vote by clicking here.
Gordon spoke of how he feels about the importance of young people to Burnley and Padiham and to the country as a whole.
"Without you guys, the country will not survive," Gordon said, "We need you to deliver the prosperity the country needs."
Following a question from the audience, Gordon highlighted the work he has done to bring jobs and investment to the town, bringing down unemployment by a third - and youth unemployment by 42%. Even the UKIP candidate gave Gordon credit for his work on manufacturing and apprenticeships.
