Gordon Birtwistle, MP for Burnley and Padiham, has praised the work of the ‘Start Up Loans Company’. The Government funded company have loaned £235,950 to fifty individuals in Burnley and Padiham so far, helping local entrepreneurs to start their business.
Created in 2012 and chaired by TV ‘Dragon’ James Caan, the Start Up Loans Company was created by the Government to support people with a commercially viable business idea but no access to finance. The scheme provides pre-finance advice, business loans and mentoring support for entrepreneurs.
“Entrepreneurs have a key part to play in the growth and rebalancing of our economy nationally," Gordon said, "Locally in Burnley and Padiham they provide new areas for the creation of jobs and wealth for our town.”
“Starting a new business can be a daunting task though, which can put people off – even if they have the most brilliant business idea. However, the Start Up Loans Company have shown that they can help get new businesses off the ground with help in finance.”
“I hope that many more people in Burnley and Padiham will be helped in starting up their new businesses here. Our town is the Most Enterprising Area in the UK and we should continue to live up to this accolade. I want to see local entrepreneurs continue to spring up in the area to help bring in still more jobs and money.”
