Gordon Birtwistle, local Burnley MP, has joined NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) in its call to raise awareness of the need for more blood donors during the busy festive period. Whole blood and platelet donations will be needed over the coming six weeks to supply hospitals across England and North Wales treating patients with cancer and anaemias, after accidents or childbirth complications.
Gordon Birtwistle MP has supported the social media campaign by tweeting his encouragement to constituents and followers. Over the winter months NHS Blood and Transplant particularly needs to ensure supplies of rarer blood groups O Rh Negative, A Rh Negative, B Rh Negative and AB Rh Negative as these are most vulnerable to shortfall.
“I am supporting the NHSBT as with one single donation they can save or improve up to three lives," Gordon said. "This is a vitally important cause which matters to me and I am calling upon the kindness of Burnley residents at this time of year to support the NHSBT.
“Christmas is a time for giving and what better way to give than to give blood to save another’s life.”
