Gordon Birtwistle has welcomed the opening of the new £2.3 million Burnley Manchester Road railway station this morning. The station now boasts a new staffed ticket office along with real time passenger travel information and a larger car park.
Gordon said "The new station provides a welcoming gateway to our town for visitors and a much improved offering for local residents who travel using the railway. I am looking forward to seeing the direct trains running from our new station to Manchester as soon as possible next year."
"The improved facilities along with the new services we'll soon be seeing form an important part of Burnley's future, encouraging even more businesses to move to the area in the coming years. We need to continue to fight for more investment from government - such as we've seen with the Burnley Bridge and Michelin sites in recent years - to make Burnley an attractive place for business to bring more jobs to our town."
