The new University Technical College (UTC) at the Weavers’ Triangle will help hundreds of young people from Burnley and Padiham find a vocation.
The college will give young people the chance to specialise in engineering and manufacturing, helping them find a career for life and ensuring there is a strong future for Burnley’s economy.
Gordon Birtwistle worked alongside Burnley Lib Dem leader Charlie Briggs to bring in the investment needed for the UTC.
Alongside traditional academic subjects like maths and English, young people attending the UTC will also be given a strong grounding in engineering and manufacturing. These skills will make them in high demand from employers when they graduate at 19 years old and will ensure that more of our young people will grow up to have a job for life.
Better news for Burnley is that by ensuring a steady supply of talented and trained young people we can continue to attract more businesses and jobs.
